The Glory of the Organ To enjoy the full strength and beauty of the organ we have to leave our Alexander Centre home and set up our stands in Faversham’s glorious Parish Church – St Mary-of-Charity, to which we welcome David Flood, Canterbury Cathedral’s world renowned organist, who will play the D minor Concerto by Handel and Albinoni’s Adagio. Better known to chamber music devotees than to concert audiences is Mendelssohn’s Octet. Every bit as tuneful as his Midsummer Night’s Dream music, which at times it resembles, the Octet is a challenge for any string orchestra, but just as rewarding for audience and players alike. Mozart and Sibelius help to make this a truly multi-faceted evening of delights. |
Next concert: Saturday 26 April at Faversham Parish Church. ![]() David Flood was an Organ Scholar of St. John's College, Oxford before completing a post-graduate year at Clare College, Cambridge. He was Assistant Organist at Canterbury Cathedral from 1978 until his appointment as Organist and Master of Choristers at Lincoln Cathedral in 1986. In 1988 he returned to Canterbury, but this time as Organist and Master of Choristers. His reputation as organist, and as choirmaster, has taken him abroad on many occasions, particularly to America.
